Social Security: what you get at each claiming age
I built this so you can see your check at every age from 62 to 70 before you decide when to start. Type the benefit from your my Social Security statement. You get each age before and after tax, and the total you would collect by 80, 85 and 90.
These numbers use Social Security's own rules: about 70% of your full benefit if you start at 62, and 124% if you wait until 70, when your full retirement age is 67. Rules from ssa.gov: starting early, waiting past full retirement age.
How much of your benefit is taxed depends on your other income. Generally up to 50% is taxable, and up to 85% can be. Tax here is your bracket rate (plus any state rate) on that taxed share, a rough estimate. If you were born on January 1, use the year before.
